“With Genomical, we significantly accelerated the Franklin integration. Their hands-on involvement brought expertise and coordination to what would otherwise have been a much slower and more complex process. Alfred Health was getting ready to ramp up its genomic testing capabilities. Genomical was the perfect partner.
As supervising scientist Dr Adam Ivey explains, Genomical’s orchestration service enables the team to use the tools they want to support their genomic testing workflow. “Genomical automatically takes files from BaseSpace [a sequencing tool] and puts them into Alissa Interpret [an analysis tool]. This frees up time for us to do our thing in the lab.”
“It took over 5 hours to manually download and upload large genomic files for every testing batch of 16 patients we ran. Now, Genomical’s orchestration service does this for us.”
Adam is also excited about joining a clinical sequencing community, brought together by their shared use of Genomical. He sees the platform’s data sharing capability as crucial for the future of genomics. “Genomical has already done the thinking about privacy and consent, and has strong security in place.”
The final decider was the support provided throughout onboarding. “The Genomical team understands not just the coding but also the bioinformatics,” says Dr Ivey. “This is really important to the functioning of the platform and the level of support we receive.”
Alfred Health now uses Genomical to submit their NATA-accredited cancer workflows using myeloid and solid tumour panels.
The next step is to gain accreditation for germline panels, and the Genomical team has implemented a new workflow to accommodate the new and larger files.
